In this age of hyper-speed, our 15 minutes of fame has become 5. On December 5th, you can participate in the world premiere of the mnartists.org webcast, available around the globe.

For 24 hours, from 9:00 AM on December 5 to 9:00 AM on December 6, 2002 mnartists.org is prototyping a new Minnesota arts channel, a forum for new ideas, an exhibition, a concert, a live webcast, and having a party all rolled into one. We're looking for members of the mnartists.org community to submit 5-minute segments that we can broadcast around the clock. This is a time-based event so we're looking for movies, audio files, slide shows of your work, performances, even scrolling texts. Deadline for submissions is October 25, 2002.

130 entries will be selected by a jury of Minnesota curators representing the visual arts, performing arts, media arts, literary arts, design and architecture. We will notify you by November 8, 2002 if your entry has been accepted. After the webcast, everyone who submits a valid file will see it added as a work record to their mnartists.org home page.

Step 1 - Register with mnartists.org

To be included in the mnartists.org 24-hour webcast, you must be a member of mnartists.org. If you aren't a member already, Join now!

Step 2 - Prepare your Work Sample

We are looking for 5-minute segments that show your work and ideas. These can take many forms, from sound and video files, to a slide show of images, to multimedia sequences (Flash), to something as simple as the script of your latest play. For time-based media, we prefer that you submit your files in Real format. Other accepted formats include MP3, WMA, AVI, MPG (no MPEG2), Quicktime, and Flash.

Images for slide shows can be GIF, JPG or PNG formats. Slide shows are limited to 20 images. If you want to present a live scrolling of your text, you need to cut and paste it into our entry submission form.

The time-based media files should play for 5 minutes. Files longer than 5 minutes will be cut off at the 5-minute mark. Slideshows and texts will automatically play for 5 minutes.

The combined size of the files in your five minute work sample must be less than 25 MB.

Step 3 - Upload Work

From August 30 - October 25 you can upload your work online at
http://5fame.mnartists.org/login.html. Netscape users please use version 6 or 7.

Time-based media may also be submitted on cd. Copy the file(s) to a cd and mail to: mnartists.org 5 Minutes of Fame, 725 Vineland Place, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN 55403 (be sure to include your name and title of the work with the cd and remember to register with mnartists.org).
